Wayfarers Unit of Flathead Lake State Park and Lone Pine State Park are releasing a series of free grab-and-go kits this winter, perfect for early release days, weekends and holiday learning. These kits will cover topics like wildlife tracking, birding, owls, snow science, and winter’s effects on forest/lake ecology.
Locations and dates of pick-up will vary, and all kits will be available on a first come, first served basis throughout the two-week period.
December 22: Winter Survival. Pick up at Lone Pine State Park.
January 4: Tracks. Pick up at Lone Pine State Park.
January 18: Snow Ranger. Pick up at Wayfarers Unit of Flathead Lake State Park.
February 1: Winter Birding. Pick up at Lone Pine State Park.
February 15: Owls. Pick up at Wayfarers Unit of Flathead Lake State Park.
March 1: Hibernation. Pick up at Lone Pine State Park.
March 15: Migration. Pick up at Wayfarers Unit of Flathead Lake State Park.
Each kit will have lesson plans, activities and most materials provided. They are geared toward grades 2 through 6. Supplies are limited, so one kit is available per household.
You can pick up your kit from Lone Pine during visitor center hours: 10 AM to 3 PM Wednesday through Saturday and 12:30PM to 3PM on Sundays.
And from the Wayfarers Unit of Flathead Lake State Park: 10 AM to 4 PM Tuesday through Saturday at the Ranger Station in the Harry Horn area of the Wayfarers Unit
