Dr. Paul Hessburg is a Senior Research Ecologist with 48 years of experience in forestry, fire, forest pathology, and landscape ecology research. He is the 2022-2026 President of the Association for Fire Ecology, and Professor with the UW-School of Environmental and Forest Science, and OSU – College of Forestry (Affiliated Faculty). Paul’s research explores wildfire and climate change effects on the dynamics of large landscapes, the structure and organization of historical, current, and future landscape resilience, decision support modeling for large landscape management applications, and the ecology of forest reburning. He holds a PhD from Oregon State University and a BS from the University of Minnesota. Paul retired in late 2024 after 42 years with the PNW Research Station and continues his research and development under his affiliate appointments and a recently formed LLC.
