The Wilderness First Aid (WFA) course will help you prepare for the unexpected. This fast paced\, hands-on training is designed to meet the needs of outdoor enthusiasts and individuals working in remote locations. It will introduce you to caring for people who become ill or injured far from any medical care. Classroom lectures and demonstrations are combined with realistic scenarios At the end of the course\, you’ll have the knowledge\, skills and ability to make sound decisions in emergency situations when in the back country. This is a two day and 16-hour training course! Approved for BSA Leaders. Class is a 2-day event\, with the second day outside at a nearby location. DESCRIPTION:Dr. Paul Hessburg is a Senior Research Ecologist with 48 years of experience in forestry\, fire\, forest pathology\, and landscape ecology research. He is the 2022-2026 President of the Association for Fire Ecology\, and Professor with the UW-School of Environmental and Forest Science\, and OSU – College of Forestry (Affiliated Faculty). Paul’s research explores wildfire and climate change effects on the dynamics of large landscapes\, the structure and organization of historical\, current\, and future landscape resilience\, decision support modeling for large landscape management applications\, and the ecology of forest reburning. He holds a PhD from Oregon State University and a BS from the University of Minnesota. Paul retired in late 2024 after 42 years with the PNW Research Station and continues his research and development under his affiliate appointments and a recently formed LLC. \n  \n(please note: flyer incorrectly states Wednesday\, and should state Tuesday)

Dogs have helped people in everything from war\, to guarding and herding livestock\, and more recently\, for detecting everything from bombs to drugs to bear poop. Conservation detection is a young and developing discipline where dogs have proven their skills at discriminating among myriad scents to identify one sample among millions. Dogs are helping conservationists collect information on endangered\, invasive and illegally trafficked species\, among other odors\, helping wildlife across the globe. \nMegan Parker has helped develop training methods and deployment on a wide range of conservation targets from fish to zoonotic diseases and helped start African anti-poaching canine teams with rescued or re-homed dogs. \nQuestions?
