A loan officer assists members with their consumer and real estate lending needs, analyzes loan requests, and makes credit decisions based on credit union lending policy.  Interviews members and potential members to gain a thorough understanding of their needs and long-term financial plans.  Cross sells credit union services to meet those needs and goals.

Essential Functions:

o   Interviews loan applicants to develop information concerning their loan needs, earnings, and financial condition.

o   Analyzes current financial position of members to determine the degree of risk involved in extending credit or lending money.

o   Makes timely decision to approve, disapprove, or forward the loan request to higher levels for final decision if necessary.

o   Prepares and/or reviews all loan documents for completeness and accuracy.

o   Establishes the terms and conditions of an approved loan and reviews them with the member.

o   Explains various loan programs to members, evaluates their needs and recommends loan options.

o   Keeps informed of current trends in consumer credit.

o   Performs first stage collection efforts with members with past-due loans.

o   Authorize release of collateral on existing loans, changes in loan terms, waivers of payments, due date change, etc.

o   Participates in sales development activities including commission sales of mechanical breakdown, G.A.P., etc.

o   Meets or exceeds established production goals.

o   Performs other job-related duties as assigned


Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is subject to typical office conditions.  Occasionally the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicles. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.  Travel may be required.

Physical Demands:

While performing the responsibilities of the Loan Officer job, the employee is required to talk and hear; conveying detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately and efficiently. The employee is often required to stand and use their hands, wrists, and fingers, to handle or feel and to manipulate keys on a keyboard.  The employee is occasionally required to sit, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.  Vision abilities required in this job include close vision.  Occasional lifting of boxes and equipment under 30 lbs.

Education & Experience:

  • A high school education or equivalent; 2- to 4-year degree in finance or related field preferred.
  • Two to five years of similar or related experience.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
  • Working knowledge of general office equipment.
